Janice Piedmont, D.C. graduated from Life Chiropractic University in 1987 as valedictorian of her class. She brought a background of women’s health and social work with her undergraduate degree from Old Dominion University and her work in crisis intervention, health clinics, Peace Corps health/nutrition volunteer and community social work. Dr. Piedmont decided to go to chiropractic school for a more hands-on approach in working with people and has enjoyed that direct care ever since. She has completed additional training in various low-force and cranial adjusting techniques, extremity manipulation and stabilization, rehab protocols and prenatal, pediatric and geriatric care. She is certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association in the Webster technique and pediatric care. She is a member of the Virginia and American Chiropractic Association.

She continued her studies in 1998 and became certified in acupuncture by Logan College. Dr. Piedmont is a Fellow in the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, is certified in Acupuncture Orthopedics and Electromagnetic Imaging and has studied at the Shanghai Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine. She enjoys the opportunity of working in both specialties as she decides a treatment plan with her patients.

Dr. Piedmont moved to the Valley in 1989 and opened her practice. She raised three beautiful daughter and is having fun now with a grandson and “grand-dogs”. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, music and church activities.

Dr. Susan Sweeten

Dr. Susan Sweeten earned her BSN from VCU-MCV in 1977, and worked as an RN at several Richmond hospitals before jumping ship to study Chiropractic. She worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings for over eight years, primarily as a psychiatric nurse. Dr. Sweeten studied at Logan College of Chiropractic, in Chesterfield, MO and graduated in 1989.

Dr. Sweeten is advanced proficiency rated in Activator Methods, Inc., which is a low force instrument assisted technique. She is also certified in Webster technique by the ICPA which is a gentle Chiropractic approach for breech presentation and lower back pain associated with pregnancy. Dr. Sweeten is a Fellow in the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, certified in Acupuncture Orthopedics and Electromeridian Imaging and has studied at the Shanghai Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She has practiced acupuncture since 1989.

Dr. Sweeten and Dr. Piedmont Dunlap have practiced together since 1998. Dr. Sweeten’s first practice was in Franklin, WV. She continues to see patients at Pendleton Community Care twice a month.

Dr. Sweeten is the proud mother of three daughters and a son. She also shares her house with two dogs and three cats. She likes to read, scrapbook and cross stitch when she is not acting as a chauffeur.

Office Manager


Susan Lantz has been the office manager at Wellspring Health Group since 1990. Susan schedules patient appointments and referrals, maintains patient records, and files insurance. She feels that it is important when you come to our office for care, that all of your questions are answered and your concerns addressed. She is able to schedule and coordinate care with all the practitioners in our group.

Susan graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1988. She regularly takes additional continuing education courses for federal and state professional updates in Medicare, insurance billing and coding for chiropractic services. She is responsible for all HIPPA compliance updates and stays current on the changing regulations in health care.

Susan has lived in the valley most of her life. She and her husband have a daughter and son, and two grandsons. She enjoys time with her family, watching movies, reading, and shopping.
